Analong is a type of dinosaur known as a sauropod.
This dinosaur lived during the Middle Jurassic period, about 170 to 168 million years ago.
The name “Analong” means “Ana dragon.” It was found in a place called the Chuanjie Formation in Yunnan, China. The only species of this genus is called Analong chuanjieensis.
The first remains of Analong were discovered in 1995 but were not classified as a separate species until 2020. Researchers found some important differences between Analong and another dinosaur known as Chuanjiesaurus. Because of this, they created a new name for it.
Analong belongs to a family of dinosaurs called Mamenchisauridae, which were known for their long necks and large bodies.
According to studies, Analong is considered the earliest member of this family.
