Yunyangosaurus is a type of dinosaur that lived during the Middle Jurassic period, around 175 to 161 million years ago. It is known mostly from fossils found in Chongqing, China.
The name “Yunyangosaurus” means “Yunyang County lizard.” This dinosaur was first mentioned in 2019, and then more details were provided in 2020 by a team of scientists led by Dai.
Yunyangosaurus is classified as a megalosauroid dinosaur, which is a group of large, carnivorous dinosaurs. The scientists identified this genus based on a unique skeleton that they discovered, which includes several vertebrae and parts of its ribs.
From the fossils, scientists believe that Yunyangosaurus was about 4.7 meters long, which is roughly 15.4 feet. Though we might not know everything about how this dinosaur looked or behaved, it gives us a glimpse into the diverse world of dinosaurs that roamed the Earth millions of years ago.
