**Trigonosaurus: The Triangle Lizard**
Trigonosaurus is a type of dinosaur that lived a long time ago, during the Maastrichtian period, about 70 to 66 million years ago.
This dinosaur was discovered in Brazil, specifically in an area called the Serra da Galga Formation.
The name Trigonosaurus means “triangle lizard” because of its triangular shape and the location where it was found, which is near Triangulo Mineiro.
**Classification**
Trigonosaurus belongs to a large group called dinosaurs. More specifically, it is part of the Sauropoda group, which includes many long-necked dinosaurs. Trigonosaurus is also related to a family called Saltasauridae.
**Discovery and History**
Trigonosaurus was first identified as a unique dinosaur species in 2005 by scientists Campos, Kellner, Bertini, and Santucci. They looked at two main pieces, called vertebrae, which were key to understanding this dinosaur.
Initially, the fossils were thought to come from one dinosaur. However, further studies showed that one of the specimens actually belonged to a different dinosaur, called Baurutitan. This led to some confusion among scientists about the true identity of Trigonosaurus.
While some researchers believe that Trigonosaurus is the same as Baurutitan, others think they are different based on observations of the fossils.
**What Makes Trigonosaurus Special?**
Trigonosaurus is a fascinating part of dinosaur history because it illustrates how discoveries can lead to new understandings in science. Even though there is still debate about its classification, Trigonosaurus gives us a glimpse into the diversity of life millions of years ago.
So, Trigonosaurus, the triangle lizard, remains an important chapter in the story of dinosaurs!
